You know those simple things people talk about...the ones that make life worth living? That's what evening dog walks with Jonathan, Delilah and U.B. are. Although, I need to work on getting off of my ass and actually going on them every night instead of once or twice a week. When I do go though, the sun usually hasn't tucked behind the houses yet, and we can still walk in warmth with looooong shadows in front of us. We don't talk about anything too important, just what we need to get done that week or plans for dinner. Though I've lived in this neighborhood for 7 months, it is so chalk full of cute little houses I see new things on every walk I hadn't noticed before. Accent doors, tiled mosaics incorporated into landscapes, adorable gardens with rose bushes and lemons trees. And if we're lucky, the field at the foot of our 'hood is open and we can play fetch with the girls. (Fetch = we throw the ball and they might chase after it if they feel like it and bring it half way back, drop it and eat some dirt). I love those little dirt eaters.

A Dose of Doggy
Since Jonny's been rehearsing for this new play he's in, it's been a lot of me and these two. The weather in LA has been lingering around 70 for the past couple of days, and Delilah and UB40 are happy to be terrorizing the neighborhood behind the safety of our fence again. (They've been inside more since it's gotten cold).
When i spend too much time at the computer Del comes to me and rears up, batting at my arms with her paws. It's no use telling her to cut it out. Her eyes just get wider, and the wine longer and more desperate. Some may call her needy, I like to think she just can't contain her love.

Window Shopping
The more I see of LA, the more I'm sure we moved to the right spot. We could spit on Abbot Kinney from our house, which according to GQ is the hippest street in America. Since I usually take all my life-advice from that publication (like how to simulate Ryan Gosling) we moved here.
Jokes aside, it is a pretty cool street. Named after some tobacco millionaire who attempted to recreate the Venice Canals of Italy right here in SoCal. It's littered with tons of boutiques and specialty shops and yummy places to grub. Since moving drained our bank account we decided to just go window shopping on Abbot Kinney a few days after we got settled.
GJelina was one of the first places we heard about. From everyone. There's always a wait because it's DELICIOUS. Thankfully they have a GJelina Take-Out right next door to the restaurant, and we tried the Market Veggie Sandwich. Sooooo we pretty much consider ourselves veggie-sandwich connoisseurs and take it from me....the sandwich is fucking legit! The best I've ever had hands-down. The radishes and arugula add just the right about of bite.
That's just an old diving helmut on a Virgin Mary statue. NBD.
Venice is very art friendly and the streets are covered with breath-taking street art.
Smell Good-ery.
And lastly but not leastly...this is dog-lovin' country. All shapes and sizes, Abbot Kinney offers the best in dog watching. I'm really pumped about this in particular because I'm wanting to focus my photography business on our four-legged friends. Can't wait to get out and practice amidst all the street-fashion bloggers and photographers who also are 1 in 10 on AK. Here's a good one if you're curious:
On Abbot Kinney. "No ma'am, I don't want a picture of you and your drapey garb+Isabel Marant sneakers, but your French Bulldog is reeeeal cute, do you mind?"

Dog Daze
U.B. Had her first photo shoot today! After rescuing her off Cedar Springs I couldn't wait to take photos of her, and I FINALLY got my camera back. She wasn't very attentive...actually I don't think she looked into the camera once, but we worked with what we had. Also, we ran into some new friends, and I snapped a couple of photos of them too.
I went kinda heavy on the adjustments in photoshop with these few. Sometimes I like to go crazy and then draw it back to find the right amount of post manipulation. They turned out really stylized, and UB40's look almost motion picture-like. (FYI our new dog's name is UB40. Jonathan and I have an affinity for early 90's pop).

Apple and Rocket
This is Chris Sabat. He's a voice actor/all around sound guru and founder/director of OkraTron 5000. You might know him from a little anime (is that right?) series called Dragon Ball Z. The first time I met Chris he was wearing a shirt that said, "I'm fat, Let's party".... needless to say I knew at that moment we were gonna be buds. Him and his wife Tabitha are probably the coolest nerds I know. Also, they are very good at naming things. For example their adorable daughter's name is Hero and these are their two pups, Apple and Rocket. I got to shoot Chris and his fur children for a FUNimation voice actor calendar benefiting the Acadiana Humane Society.
And now my blog is going to get 1 million hits because of all of his diehard anime (is that right?) fans!
Booya!
