Ode to Mom Pants

Doesn't it irritate you when you feel like lookin' somewhat adorable (i.e. are in the mood to wear high shoes or something that is fashionable over functional) and you have absolutely nowhere to go? For example: I wore this to IKEA. This is a ridiculous outfit to wear to IKEA, but I didn't go there to give a fuck, so.......
In more news: I drove on the 405 by myself awwwlllll the way there. It was the first time I've done it since moving to Cali. How I've avoided it thus far is beyond me.
More MOM pants in this post. You might remember my other pair from here or here. I LOVE them. Relatively easy to find in most thrift stores too. The trick is to find a pair made with good quality fabric. You can typically tell if they are made well by the way they drape on your body/you get a warm fuzzy feeling in your heart. If you don't get a quality pair your just gonna look like every other damn hipster (not that there's anything wrong with that), and you won't be able to dress them up a little. Which is my favorite thing to do with 'em.

Another tip: If you do find a great pair but the length is wrong, or you wish they got a little skinnier at the bottom, just roll them up all messy like OR french roll them.

So go get some. Wear high shoes with them. Run some errands in that shit!

Cheap Trick

Since the weather has been so beautiful, my attire has consisted of flip-flops, chucks, cut-offs and t's. It had probably been 2 months since I wore shoes with any sort of heel of wedge. So, yesterday I felt the need to dress it up a bit. However, I still maintained the loose fitting, breezy-ness I've been rockin.
Something great about this outfit: the total cost was around $10.00. The shoes, my mom bought thinking she wouldn't fall over....which she did, (she gets too distracted to wear high shoes) so she gave them to me! The shirt and skirt were thrifted, and the headband I found on sale at LF in Santa Monica.

Don't get weirded out by the man head in the photos. That's just a mold of my husband's face....tooooootally normal to have that in your garden, riiiiight guys?

The Man In Our Mirrors

Let's talk about the resurgence of loafers in the wake of MJ's death. I know it's been a while since he left us for Never Never Land, but loafers were so 2 years ago so it speaks to my point. If we really thought about it, I'm sure we could all find several pieces in our closets that were directly influenced by Michael Jackson. Although many of his signature pieces were sported by celebrities and artists before he came along, (Audrey Hepburn and high water pants, Greaser's and plain white tees, Jimmy Hendrix and the Military Jacket, Pirates and billowy white shirts) he recreated and essentially established these looks as staples in popular culture. (Kinda like Benny Goodman did with jazz and swing).

What is soooo MJ in your closet?
(Besides your sexuality)
