Drowning Beautiful

Not sure if you guys have stumbled upon Stumbleupon, but it's one of my favorite ways to surf
the world wide webs. I promise you it is atleast 200 times more entertaining than
facebook stalking. Every now and then it will lead me to an artist like this...and I am completely mystified.
Breath taken away.
Jason de Caires Taylor sculpts life-size figures, and then submerges them in water, where
they are allowed to take on a life of their own, or rather become apart of the natural underwater
seascape. His works span from the waters of Mexico to Greece, and give the viewer a sense of
simultaneously peering into the future and the past.
I've always been fascinated with water and sea life (which is why we got married on the
beach). Maybe it's because I find water to be so calming and at the same time
so totally untamed and powerful. Enough babbling. Get Lost:

Say Hello to My Little Friends...

My hands were restless, the light was afternoonish, and I had the urge to showcase
my little friends. I look at them every day when I'm accessorizing my limbs and whatnot.
I say they're my little friends, and I kinda mean it. I have a special affinity for animal
jewelry. Finding special pieces like these makes me feel a little bit like a kid again.
What I mean is....
I find myself giving them personalities, or thinking maybe one gets envious
if I wear another too much. When I'm sporting them, it's like I have a pal along for the ride.

aside:
Sometimes I do get slightly sickened, however, when I see really kitschy, over-produced animal jewelry.
(Owls for example....what a pity).

The Elephant Broach has his own special place in my jewelry box. He's no nonsense.
The Leopard is just nappin'... mad chillin' and what have you.
The Pelican earrings were found at a shell shack in St. Augustine, and are very special to me even though they were only $2...Actually, especially cause they were $2.
The Seahorse and the Fishy were both gifts from my husband. I relate to these two, because they are long and lean and have goofy faces....remind you of anyone? yeahme.
The birdbath ring I found on ebay so it lacks any sentimental value...except I wear it everyday. Also, I feel safer when walking in parking garages with it on. It could really tear a hole in somebody's face.

Now for a night of tombstone pizza (ooohhhh the shame), and cuddling with fur child and husband.

Buzy Makin' Buzkits

I've been craving some craft time like a mutha.
My DIY life = having piles and piles of fabric, glue, bright colored ink thangs, sewing machine etc
and never doing what I plan on. I'll give myself credit for shredding shirts,
and recovering the occasional ottoman, but I really need to get cracking on this shiz.

I've stumbled upon this blog that has THE BOMB-EST (?) DIY projects.
My personal favorite is the spike head band. Gad! Who doesn't want to look like a stegosaurus?
Visit their blog and click on DIY to get the full how-to. They've got great photos too.
Maybe if I make a promise to myself in blog-life.... I'll follow through.
I'm gunna make that thing.

In further news, my friend Kendall has moved to the country and started a blog!
Clicky to looky!! She's neato, and so is her husband.
Plus she's starting an online vintage store, Yeah Vintage, so keep your eyeballz peeled.

Pool time commencing.
xo!
