Vinyl Veekend: The Pretenders, Get Close

It's been a while since I've done one of these. I karaoke-ed The Pretenders at my birthday party the other night, and thought they would be a great band to recommend on vinyl. You can typically find this album at any used book/record store.

Chrissie Hynde is one of my favorite female vocalists: alto with a femme fatale quality. (Think Joan Jette mixed with Annie Lennox with a tinge of a jazzy cadence...but really she's in a category all her own). This album is good for the guys and the girls, but when I listen to it...it makes me feel like a sassy lady. (On second thought I think it might make Jonathan feel like a sassy lady too). For some reason when I'm getting ready to go out and I put this album on it makes I'm warped into some cute 80's movie montage where I want to make funny faces in a steamy mirror or put on a ridiculous outfit and do a little dance.

Also, Catherine Zeta Jones was wearing a Pretenders shirt in High Fidelity in the "John Cusack's character is falling head over heels in love" monologue/montage. Ya' know, cause The Pretenders were the band the cool girls liked in the 80's.

Polka Dot Palazzo Pants

 Oh my word, y'all. This month has been crazy busy. The weather is starting to get beautiful and my loved ones from Texas are flocking to LA. Not complaining, because my house has been full of best friends and siblings and my sweet parents HOWEVER when getting dressed all I have time to do is throw on something with an elastic waist. (This is the time where I would pull my elastic waist band away from my belly with my thumb, give you a wink and snap it back).

Enter polka dot pocketed palazzo paaaaaants! (I win at alliteration).
P pants (what I'm calling palazzo pants from here on out in this post, for your pleasure) are one of the most hilarious pieces of clothing to me. Mostly because people think you're wearing a skirt, and then when you do a deep lunge everyone is happily surprised at the P Pant cuteness.  (Kinda like a skort. Skorts are hilarious to me too, but I don't do deep lunges in them). P pants also happen be one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing. All the freedom of a skirt, but you can can do high kicks.

I kept the rest of the outfit easy as well. The sweater shirt is one of my favorites (it kinda has the same affect on the girls as the one in this post) I'm quite sure I have never seen another vintage piece quite that color green. The three watches are a go-to when I'm accessorizing, and don't have time to think. And finally, the neutral brogues...if you don't have a pair, you should getcha some. They go with EVERYTHING in the summer and spring. Seriously. I'm trying to think of what they don't go with and I can't.
{Shoes: Gifted Kenneth Cole  (similar and not as expensive here
(and these in brown and white for a no lace version...adorable!!)}{Panama Hat: Thrifted (similar)}
{P Pants: Thrifted (I found these on ASOS they aren't capris but they are polka dotted and super cute!}
{Shirt, Belt, Watches and Bag: Thrifted}

Links A La Mode

I love IFB's Links A La Mode. Every week I get a whole list of new posts to check out, and I get to discover new
bloggers. My fave discovery this week was Narcissista.me. I loved her honestly about having to toss out the
"stripper shoe". (I am glad the platform shoe trend is going away. It had it's 15 minutes of fame, just like the rest of the cast of Jersey Shore. BUUUURRRN!) And I can never get enough of my girl from Look Sharp, Sconnie.

I'm happy to be included in the line up this week, check out these links!

The Beautiful Abyss

Beauty is only skin deep, beauty comes from within. From actually taking care of your skin to being comfortable in your own skin, this is where style starts. We've had a lot of thoughtful entries this week, and I loved reading the posts. Breaking style rules, mixing punk and modesty, and a full on deconstruction of cats on the internet and fashion (my two favorite things). Anyway, before I digress, you'll get lost in a world commentary so perhaps you'll digress into the abyss as well.
