Vintage Rock T's: A Dilemma

Let's get one thing straight, I am a firm believer that a good vintage rock t is a staple for any wardrobe. There are several reasons I think any gal (who is a music lover) should have one in black, white and grey.
1. Super soft
2. Super sexy... particularly with no pants (duh).
3. You're wearing a piece of music history (this shirt went ON TOUR with Genesis).
4. They look good with just about anything: Skinny jeans, shorts, cigarette pants, maxis, minis...they
are basically like your favorite plain t that goes with everything, except favorite-er.......
and more rock n' roll........er. And not many other people have the same one as you.

So that aside, can we discuss the rock t dilemma? The one where people are driving up the prices of these things so astronomically high they are becoming bougie? Yeah, that dilemma. I consider myself to be somewhat of an enthusiast, as me and J have amassed quite a few over the years.

So really, Jonathan found this original Genesis '87 tour t-shirt for $35, and other Genesis shirts are selling for $200 on ebay!?!?!? Pssssshhhhhhhaaa! I mean, I'm not saying that a good band t isn't a good investment, but I saw a Clash shirt on sale for $900 the other day. If you're wondering why I'm putting those numbers in caps, it's because I'm screaming and shaking my fist. Come on guyzzz. That is RENT for some people. Some sucker is going to buy your $250 Chicago shirt and people are gonna start thinking that's the going rate! Go suck an egg!

The question is what is the difference between a good band t and memorabilia? The Clash, for example, are rock legends. I personally put them in the same category as The Ramones or The Rolling Stones, and their shirts fall more on the memorabilia side (Genesis, not so much although I still love them). I understand why a concert tour shirt from one of these bands would be expensive. But not $900 expensive. Not yet anyway. And honestly I feel like it's not the "memorabilia" part that is driving up the price. It's the "fashion" part. The "I saw Erin Wasson in a Aerosmith t-shirt, I must get one" part. I'm just not sure how comfortable I am with rock t's becoming status symbols simply because they are trendy right now. That seems to be the path we're going down.

And for the love of Elvis, don't wear an Elvis shirt if you don't listen to Elvis.

Now that my pretentious music rant is over...I'm still lovin' the shinanigans out of some pleats, y'all!! And also my giant, cheesy, costume jewelry moon and star earrings. Don't be jelly.
