I must apologise. I have been severely MIA the past (almost) 2 weeks. You see, it was because my life resembled that which can be best described through imagery:
Yep. One big blur. We've been moving. Between packing, garage sale-ing and just sitting in a mess of boxes weeping I felt it was not appropriate to take anyone who reads this blog along on that magical journey. The one where you come face to face with your hoarder tendencies. We are now officially Culver City residents and no longer Venitians.
(Cue nostalgic piano music/slow-mo footage of banana-hammocked rollerbladers on the
Venice Boardwalk)
... Although I will miss the feeling that hipsters are too-cooling me as I stroll down Abbot Kinney and the sweet personalities of the schizo homeless people drinking the last half inch of wine out of bottles in my recycling bin, I found this move bitter sweet. I'll always remember fondly streets that smelled like a cocktail of urine and hot garbage, and checking @venice311 on my twitter feed when the I heard the sound of the ghetto bird and saw it's magnificent spot light shining down upon my neighborhood...
Alright, I'm giving Venice a hard time. There are definitely some redeeming qualities about that little coastal corner of LA, but I'm happy to be in Culver City: where Venitians go for peace and quiet/to have babies. Also I'm pumped about our MUCH larger house (the more vintage goodies to fill you with, my dear) AAAAAAND the 800 dollars we are saving on rent. (RECORD SCRATCH)
Yes, I said 800.
So I'm back, mofos! Wearing all kinds of cut-up thrifted vintage. PTA mom pants are always good to chop off for summer time shorts. Stay tuned for photos of the new house and a how-to on no-sew curtains!
Missed you. xo!

You lovely, little lady, you. I am so happy to see you posting again. Congrats on your move! I know how saving that much money feels. Josh and I got stuck with a mortgage and apartment lease in our first year of marriage. It's a long story, and it was RIDICULOUS. Anyway, when we finally were able to drop the apartment lease, it was a huge breath of fresh air.

You look lovely as ever and ahh the dreaded adulthood "move to the suburbs to save on rent" phase... it happens... Welcome back...

Stunning styling.

First of all, as a visual person I'd like to thank you for the mental imagery of slo-mo banana-hammocked rollerbladers. My mind also added a patch of chest hair and mirrored wraparound sunglasses. Silly mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd second, I hear ya on the moving. But I'm seriously jealous of the rent reduction. We're paying $1100 MORE a month on rent here in Anchorage than we are on the mortgage on our house in WA. AND it's a crappier house.
You look gorgeous.
OK, that is all.
Glad to have you back chica! Sounds like the move sounds like a good thing all around - you can get a lot of thirfted goods for $800. :P
ReplyDeleteAlso, you are look amazing, per usual! I'm loving that jacket especially - so b.a.!

Beautiful leather!
ReplyDeleteI've definitely missed your posts- I'm so glad your back and that the move went well! Saving $800 on rent is definitely a win! I've just moved from Illinois to New Jersey (temporarily, until I go to New York for school in late August) so I can totally commiserate with all of the stresses of moving that you went through. Can't wait to see photos of your new place!

These chop off pants, slash shorts are such a good idea. The result comes out really well. Love this outfit.

Oooh, great pants idea…..I am now searching for some front-pleated, high-waisted pants to chop. Did I just say that? ALso, those earrings are the business.
ReplyDeleteAnd we missed you!! Yay so happy to see you back :) woop 800 save on rent! Sounds so amazing, hopefully you can spend it on all kinds of awesomeness for your new place :D I googled both places to broaden my geographical knowledge of L.A. To be honest I only knew downtown, Beverly Hills and Hollywood (oh yes and Chino and Newport Beach thanks to the O.C. haha). Well now that that's cleared up :D Hope everything is a bit settled down in the new place, moves are so exciting :) I can see all kinds of interior decor projects happening already! Have fun shopping furniture and all kinds of clutter we never need but always buy :D (oh and love the outfit)

Love this! I think this is one of my favourite outfits so far. Absolutely love the mix of materials and I think cutting off mom jeans is a great idea! Definitely something I should think of next time I go thrift shopping.
